I think Reynie kept writing to Miss Perumal because he really misses Miss Perumal. It is important in the story because it kind of shows how Reynie is feeling.
1.He realy loves Mrs. Perumal.2.it shows that he cares for her.

Maybe because he wants to get this stuff like The Whisper that he is writing about out of his mind. This is important to the story because he is telling us his thoughts. And that might help us figure out the mystrie.
